What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing simply put is about creating a positive birth experience.

The Hypnobirthing Australia™ Positive Birth Program is uniquely designed and absolutely one of its kind. It is up to date, modern and specifically designed for Australian couples. It is about teaching you to allow your body’s natural abilities and processes to birth your baby. Giving you the knowledge about your birth and the processes your body goes through in order to allow your baby to be delivered into the world. It also aims to provide you with this knowledge so that you can feel empowered to make informed decisions throughout your pregnancy.

This program will teach you to access a ‘toolkit’ that will assist you at every point in your labour and even throughout your pregnancy by focusing on releasing and letting go in order for you to meet any turn your birthing takes with ease and peace. With an emphasis on visualisation, relaxation techniques and the role of the birth partners this program is a comprehensive childbirth education.

The ‘hypno’ part of Hypnobirthing refers to self-hypnosis which is a deep form of relaxation. This is a powerful part of this program as it allows the birthing mother to relax into a meditative state all the while remaining conscious and fully aware of her surroundings. During the birthing process, women are more in tune with their body and by relaxing into a state of self-hypnosis women are able to calmly and confidently meet whatever turn their birthing takes often resulting in less interventions.

This program will also help you release any fears you may have to promote an overall feeling of empowerment in your body’s ability to birth as well as anticipation for a positive birth for you and your baby. This coupled with the self-hypnosis aspect, a practical ‘toolkit’ and the support of the birth partner is what sets Hypnobirthing apart from other childbirth classes.

Birth Partners

What is so different about Hypnobirthing Australia™ as a childbirth education is that it provides both mum and the birthing partner with information and tools. In fact, there is an emphasis on working collaboratively as a birthing mum and birth partner to achieve a birth experience where you both feel calm and empowered. This made the world of difference for my birth partner’s experience of our daughter’s birth because he knew what to do and how to help. He felt as if he was an essential part of our birth experience and even ensured that those around me maintained the calm environment we desired. Your birth partner can be anyone who you feel will support you the best throughout your birth experience, whether it be your partner, mother, a doula or you may being going on your own and that is absolutely okay too.

Attending Classes

You can attend classes anytime as our aim is to give you the opportunity to learn this information and techniques in order to assist you in your birthing experience, no matter where you are in your pregnancy. This being said, it is recommended that you attend classes between 20 and 32 weeks so that the information is still at the forefront of your mind when you begin to birth. Also beginning earlier will give you time to practice the tools and techniques from the program allowing a potentially deeper hypnotic state. However, if you are closer to your due date it is absolutely okay as many women, including myself have learnt the Hypnobirthing Australia™ course with only a few weeks before the birth and experienced wonderful, calm births.
Please contact Caitie if you are over 34 weeks or have any other questions.
